Case Study: Managed Services for the Department of Defense
For 8 years, Netstar Systems has provided managed services (database/system/application administration, etc.) at
the enterprise level for the Department of Defense. Netstar Systems remotely supports 29 DoD sites, 400+ enterprise Oracle applications, and thousands of users. The client's corporate data warehouse alone has more than 2 terabytes of data. Netstar Systems was brought in for its Oracle expertise to manage and oversee all Oracle database environments running on UNIX platforms for the largest financial organization in the world. This DoD client proved the concept of consolidating its information systems and created a centrally located organization to remotely manage these worldwide information systems. Netstar Systems' role quickly grew from providing database/system administration support to development support, business intelligence consulting, data warehousing, web administration, and ePortal architecture and administration. By consolidating its information technology support, this DoD client has more control over IT operations, has optimized its own resources, has saved millions of dollars, operates more effectively, and provides much better customer service to its clients, to include individual soldiers. Related departments and organizations have since decided to follow suit based on DoD's success.
