Database Design "Excellent intro to DB
Design! It is the best intro to data modelling that I've come across
yet. I've been playing with Oracle and MySQL for a year or so, but I
knew I wasn't going to get very far if I didn't know how to build
databases from scratch. This book was the first one I've come across
that didn't take on the airs of an academic dissertation. Highly
recommended for people who want to build Database Analyst
skills."
Teach Yourself SQL in 24 Hours "Advertised
as being for beginners, the authors land right on target. The
coverage is also of sufficient breadth to cover all of the major
points of SQL and the prose style is clear and concise. In terms of
difficulty, it is in the proper location, above those with the
equivalent of dumb in the title and below those that assume previous
programming experience. While several implementations of SQL are
mentioned, the emphasis is on Oracle and MySQL. The choice of a
major commercial and an open source implementation of SQL was a wise
one and broadens the audience. In the cases where there are
differences, they are clearly marked by an icon. Commands from the
latest SQL standard, SQL3 are also covered, making it as up to date
as possible. This is a sound introduction to SQL and is the best
quick start guide to the language that I have seen on the market
recently."
Teach Yourself SQL in 21 Days "I used this
book as the basis towards my WIN2K MCDBA...It is superior to
anything out there including Microsoft's Official MCSE [Exam 70-228]
SQL Server 2000 SA Training Kit... includes everything one needs
assuming one immerses oneself in the book from Day 1 through Day 21
in addition to Day 22 (SQL Server Analysis Services (OLAP)) and Day
23 (English Query). It is both a superior reference book and
programmer's guide. After purchasing Microsoft's official references
I found myself repeatedly (frustrated by their shortcomings and
referring back to this particular SAMS text). Enough cannot be said
about this book."
Teach Yourself SQL in 21 Days "I've used
(bought) through about 120 Database books. I've worked though about
30 SQL Books(over 8 years). This is the best introductory book on
SQL available. The bad reviewers are ignorant of how to use that
glowing box thing called a computer(they can't find the available
class files...)" The book is clear, explains the statements and
gives specific examples. I work through database books for my job,
and I can tell you 90 out of 100 are horrid, this is one of the less
than 10% that is worth the time and money..."
